A "Severe Thunderstorm Watch" means that conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in our area.

A "Severe Thunderstorm Warning" means that severe thunderstorms are occurring in our area.

Tornadoes

A "Tornado Watch" means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes in our area. Tune to a local radio or television station for further reports.

A "Tornado Warning" means that a tornado has been sighted in our area and you need to take shelter immediately.

Siren

When the sirens sound in the City of Muskogee, take shelter immediately. The sirens will only be sounded if a threat is near the City. The Emergency Operations Center is always manned if the City of Muskogee is under a thunderstorm watch, or warning, or a tornado watch, or warning, and any time emergency conditions are present.

The City of Muskogee has 19 Storm Sirens strategicly located around the city. A NOAA Weather Radio with Select Area Message Encoder (S.A.M.E.) feature is one of the best ways to get the current hazardous weather information. You also should tune into a commercial radio station, or television newscast for the latest information. Be alert for approaching storms. Be ready to take shelter.
